Joshua Das, Co-Founder
Math Trek was started by two founders. Phillip with a degree in Math, and an instructor for competitive math, and Josh with a communication degree, and trained as a Montessori teacher. Math Trek started with the idea that our current education system is not producing creative, problem solvers. We realize that American math education is extremely lacking compare to international competitors in Asia, and Europe. Why is that? We think the reason for America ‘s low standing is due to how we teach math to our children. We teach our children to remember rules, and apply those repetitive rules. We think our students are bored by these types of problems, and that this approach will not teach our students to become creative problems solvers, and original thinkers. We think the best way to develop creative problem solving in a children is to expose them to problems that are interesting, and requires outside the box thinking: Math competition problems. This is genesis of math Trek.
Joshua has a B.A. in Communications from San Jose State University. He has been working with kids for the past 5 years in Montessori and at US Chess Mates.
