Weekly Math Club at Weibel Elementary
Weekly Math Club at Weibel Elementary
Day/Time: Friday 2:50 - 3:50 pm
Room: 29
Dates: 1/26 - 3/8
Our Math Club is a fun and engaging way for elementary students to explore the wonders of mathematics beyond the classroom. We offer activities for different grade levels and abilities, so everyone can find something they enjoy and learn from. We do this by incorporating various components into our weekly curriculum. Our Math Club is a time for students to learn about novel mathematical ideas that stretch their imagination. We do this using the medium of math games. You can learn more about it HERE. A larger focus of our math club is about exposing students to novel mathematical problems that really require out-of-the-box thinking, and critical thinking. We find the best way to do that is to exposing students to math contest problems from various competitions. This has the dual purpose of also preparing students for future math contests. The club focus on math contest problems from the AMC 8, Math Kangaroo, Math Olympiads, Mathcounts, and Math Bee, Noetic Math Contest, logic problems, and problems from different branches of discrete mathematics such as Graph theory, and combinatorics.
Any students registered in our club are automatically opted-in for an upcoming math contest. However, we completely understand if parents prefer to opt-out or if students wish to learn without the pressure of competition. We encourage learning for its intrinsic value - solving complex math problems is a rewarding experience in itself! Students can take the class without any expectation to compete in any math contest. Our Math Club is not only about learning math, but also about having fun and making friends who share your passion for math.
